Original Prusa i3 MK3/S/+ to MK4 upgrade kit
Original Prusa i3 MK3/S/+ to MK4 upgrade kit
Why is our price different than buying direct from Prusa? Click here to read our article on our pricing.
This is the full upgrade that also contains the MK4’s new X/Y precise motors (400 steps, 0.9°per step). It’s the most expensive of all three, but last time you voiced your interest in a full MK2->MK3 upgrade pretty strongly, so we decided to give you a full MK4 upgrade as well. :-)
Before you order the upgrade, please check which PSU your printer came with and which version of the heatbed connector is installed. This kit only works if you have the black power supply and not a silver power supply. Your heatbed must have screws and is NOT solder on.
This product is supplied as a kit - you must assemble it yourself!
Printed parts are NOT included! Please print them before you disassemble your MK3S/+! The filament is included in the upgrade package.
Important: The black injection-molded spool holder is not part of the upgrade package. If your printer didn't come with it (early revisions of MK3), you can purchase it here.
Here is a closer explanation of the difference between the MK3.9 and MK4 upgrade packages: the only difference is in the stepper motors. The MK4 uses higher-precision stepper motors that help eliminate VFA (Vertical Fine Artifacts) – these are tiny surface artifacts that are visible if you closely inspect a printed object. In other words, the motors in the full MK4 upgrade are the cherry on top – if you’re chasing the highest possible level of quality, they will come in handy.
This product includes:
- 32-bit xBuddy board (same as MK4)
- Metal xBuddy case (and cover)
- xLCD screen (same as MK4)
- Nextruder parts (including E motor)
- Cables for Nextruder, Heatbed, xLCD
- 10 mm smooth rods (Z-axis)
- X/Y/Z motors
- Expansion joints for Heatbed
- New belts for X & Y axes
- Fasteners and other accessories
- Filament for printable parts
Parts kept from your MK3S/MK3S+
- Frame and extrusions (new MK4 has just a different look)*
- PSU** (same wattage/voltage as MK4)
- Heatbed MK52 24V (thermistor and power cables will be changed) *
- X/Y rods and bearings
*Frame and heatbed are not included upgrade, because replacing these parts brings no funcional advantage and would only increase the price of the upgrade. If for some reason you still want a new frame (it has hexagons on the other side), it will be available on the eshop as a spare part.
**Please note that silver PSU will require a cable adapter. More information will be provided later.

Great printer as always!
I've been using Prusa machines since the MK3 was released. I have a couple of MK3s and a couple of Minis in my print farm and they have just been reliable! Due to my past experiences, I've decided to bring the MK4 into my print farm. The kit was very similar to the MK3 so I was no stranger to the assembly process of this machine and the time it would take. After assembly and pre-flight check that the printer goes through to make sure everything works, I have had no issues with the printer at all. It's running exactly as it should be. My older Prusa's have the E3D Revo upgrades on them and I'm glad to see that this printer can swap nozzles on the fly since I find myself using many different types of nozzle diameters for different projects and products I sell. The way it probes the bed and does an automatic first layer has been seamless. I've seen a lot of people complain about the nozzle poking holes in the PEI sheet from the probing process. All I can say is that it's gonna happen, so do yourself a favor and pick up a textured or satin build sheet and you'll be just fine! Overall, I'm very happy with this printer and can't wait to put it through the countless hours like on my others!
Prusa MK4 3D Printer Kit
My overall experience with this kit was Wonderful!! The components were all first class, website assembly steps were easy to understand and follow, all the small parts and fasteners were in separate labeled plastic bags, and one bag even contained the tools you need. I would estimate it took me about 20 to 30 hours to assemble and when I plugged it in I went thru all the tests which it passed with all green check marks! This is my first 3D printer and I highly recommend Prusa and Printed Solid. Next step for me is learning the Slicer software, filaments, nozzles, etc. ;-)
Excitement abounds with the NEW i3 MK4 in our classroom!
The students are really getting excited about what we are able to do with the new printer. We have nearly used a spool of filament and are thrilled with what we can do. The printing resolution is stellar! The larger screen operations info is amazing. We are finding the flashdrive much easier to use than the microSD cards!
open and play
I was really pleased with the whole experience. From fielding my initial questions, to processing my order, to shipment, everything was quick responsive and really fast. I also really appreciated the preassembled MK4s. They were really just ready to go after calibration!
