Description
Powered by brand new ObXiDian® 500 technology, these premium nozzles are an official collaboration between E3D and Prusa. The unique coating on the nozzles makes them at least 5 times more wear resistant than our popular ObXidian range! Users will get exceptional wear-resistance that effortlessly outshines other hardened nozzles. This long-lasting, simple upgrade allows you to easily achieve pristine prints with ANY filament over and over again!
Unlock printing with gnarly filaments
Most abrasive materials simply won’t wear an ObXiDian 500 nozzle. Upgrade so you can print with any filament you like (including UV-reactive/ “glow in the dark” filaments) without endless maintenance.
Long lifespan nozzles
Our ObXiDian 500 technology significantly extends nozzle life by making the primary wear points on the nozzle several orders of magnitude more wear-resistant than other steel nozzles on the market. Better for your pocket, and the planet.
Beautifully smooth and strong
The optimised thermal performance of these nozzles improves the interlayer adhesion of your prints. Think pristine filament finishes and stronger parts for functional applications.
No more sticky situations
The state-of-the-art coating applied to the nozzle has a low surface energy to prevent filament build-up. This makes it easier to clean the nozzle between prints and also drastically reduces the likelihood of print crashes and cosmetic defects in your prints.
Effortless upgrade
Changing a nozzle on your Prusa printer is super simple! Watch this video to find out more.
Please note:
ObXiDian 500 nozzles are exceptionally wear resistant compared to other products on the market and significantly outperform other hardened nozzles. Improvements in ‘exotic’ engineering filaments mean that some new materials which include aggressive fillers, including but not limited to Polymaker’s Fiberon range, can cause significant wear on even ObXiDian 500 nozzles. E3D is actively developing even more specialist solutions for these materials. In the meantime please be aware that your ObXiDian 500 nozzle will not be everlasting under extreme material conditions.
Some filled materials contain particles that are close to, if not larger than, some of the smaller industry standard nozzle sizes, including up to 0.4mm. Attempting to print such materials through these nozzle sizes significantly increases the risk of a jam. Please check your filament manufacturer’s datasheet for recommended minimum nozzle orifice diameter to ensure that the nozzle you choose is suitable for your use case.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Should I choose the ObXiDian 500 Version or the ObXidian version?
-
This comes down to a question of longevity and intended use case. To give a comparison, ObXiDian 500’s wear performance is increased over ObXidian by at least a factor of five so it will last much longer and therefore need swapping out a lot less often. Also, a lot of popular abrasive materials simply won’t wear an ObXiDian 500 nozzle whereas they would eventually wear an ObXidian nozzle (albeit slower than a hardened steel nozzle). Also, the printing temperature of the ObXidian variants are limited to 300°C whereas with ObXiDian 500 you can print up to 500°C (depending on the maximum temperature of your printer).
-
Will the nozzle ever wear?
-
Yes, given enough time the nozzle may exhibit wear, but will do so considerably slower than a Hardened Steel nozzle. Expected product life is difficult to quantify due to the numerous variables involved, including base polymer, additive, brand, temperature, and print speed.
-
Does this void my warranty with my printer?
-
No, Prusa have collaborated with E3D throughout the development and has officially approved the use of these products.
-
Can I still print with normal filament like PLA?
-
Absolutely! Even using the standard print profiles, you will notice more consistent visual consistency due to improved thermal performance and flow boosting of the high flow variants, enabling you to have stronger, better-looking parts.
-
What’s the benefit of this product if my printer doesn’t actually reach 500°C?
-
You will always be restricted by the maximum printing temperature of your machine (290°C). However, even printing at lower temperatures you will still get all the other benefits of the product such as the extreme abrasion resistance which enhances longevity, and the non-stick coating on the nozzle which makes it easier to clean and reduces plastic build-up/print defects.
