Why are build surfaces important?

Build surfaces are arguably one of the most important parts of the 3D printing process. They provide a flat surface for the bottom of your print. Many also provide an adhesive surfaces to form a temporary bond with the extruded plastic during a print, or they provide a surface onto which adhesive can be applied.
